The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has officially declared the Class 12 Higher Secondary (HS) results for 2026, with students across the state once again delivering an impressive academic performance. This year’s results maintained West Bengal’s strong Higher Secondary record, while also highlighting continuing trends such as girls outperforming boys and the Science stream dominating overall results.
Overall pass percentage: 91.23%
Over 6.26 lakh students appeared for the examination
Around 5.71 lakh students successfully passed
Girls’ pass percentage: 92.47%
Boys’ pass percentage: 89.79%
Science stream recorded the highest success rate at 99.19%
Adrito Paul topped the state with 496/500 marks (99.2%)
Purba Medinipur emerged as the best-performing district with a 94.19% pass percentage
One of the most consistent trends in recent WBCHSE results continued this year as female students once again outperformed boys by a comfortable margin. The gender gap in performance has now become a recurring pattern in West Bengal board examinations, reflecting stronger academic consistency among girl students state-wide.
The Science stream emerged as the standout performer with an extraordinary 99.19% pass percentage, significantly ahead of Commerce and Arts. This mirrors previous years where Science students have consistently recorded near-perfect success rates. At the same time, the Arts and Commerce streams also maintained healthy overall performances, showing balanced academic outcomes across disciplines.
Compared to previous years, the 2026 results indicate stable academic standards with the overall pass percentage remaining above the 91% mark. While the board did not witness any dramatic rise or fall, the consistency itself signals growing academic preparedness among students after several years of educational disruptions earlier in the decade.
WBCHSE introduced an important new verification feature this year by adding candidate photographs and QR codes to marksheets for improved authenticity and transparency. The board also confirmed that digital marksheets would be available through official online portals and DigiLocker for easier student access.
In addition, the council announced provisions for improvement examinations for students seeking better scores, offering greater flexibility and a second opportunity for academic improvement.
The 2026 HS results reinforce West Bengal’s reputation for maintaining strong board examination standards while adapting to modern verification and digital access systems. From district-level excellence to exceptional individual performances, this year’s results reflect not just marks, but a broader picture of academic resilience and consistency.
And today, across thousands of households, happy and proud parents and families are celebrating their children, with treats, sweets and abundance of good wishes!
